Yahoo! Mash: 360 revisited?
I was finally invited to the new Yahoo! Mash application (actually an ex-Yahoo! co-worker invited me), and I have to agree with what other people are saying: this is not an inspiring product just yet.
So let’s forget about the obvious comparisons to Facebook: let’s think this is actually the way Yahoo! users will have a profile. One thing I liked about it is that it’s very clean, although you can customize the CSS of it.
Also inventive is the fact that there are “revisions” of the page, sort of like a Wiki. So your friends could potentially “edit” your page and make it more like a… mash. This could be an interesting slant of the “profile” concept; sort of a person-wiki.
There are some modules to pick and add to your page (like RSS and Flickr) and Yahoo! has hinted that they’ll open an API for users to create their applications for it.
It looks to be limited on the photo/video aspects (you have the Flickr module, which will support video at some point) and you also get the friend’s feed, called “Pulse” in Mash.
Guess we’ll have to wait and see, although I think at this point, the winner is still Facebook.
P.S.: Let me know if you want an invite.
